REACH – The EU’s new chemical legislation

All substances, such as they are, both in preparation form and in finished objects, that are manufactured or imported into the EU area in quantities of at least one tonne per year per supplier must be registered with the European Chemical Agency.

• Registration is a condition for the manufacture, import and sale of the substance
• Such registration is mainly carried out by the manufacturer/importer of the substance. Reka's role is as a downstream user
• The substance may only be used for the registered purposes. In that way, it is possible to ensure that downstream users too use the substances safely

Duties of a downstream user – Reka’s role

• Knows the substances and preparations it uses – chemical inventory
• Observes existing bans and restrictions
• Informs the manufacturer/importer of its applications of use
• Observes operational safety guidelines
• Studies the REACH obligations for each substance
• Provides the entire supply chain with information required for operational safety
• Informs the European Chemical Agency of the use of substances subject to permit.
