The introduction of the Reka name
On 1st March 1961, the company leased one floor of a factory from the company Villayhtymä for its cable factory. Machine assembly began in February-March 1961, and test wires were already being produced in April.
The initial purpose for the manufacturing programme was to take the thinner part of the installation wires (ML, MK, MMJ qualities) as a greater cross-sectional surface 4 x 6 mm². The first installation wires approved by Finnish Electricity Inspection Department were delivered in July 1961, the year from which the age of Reka Cables is calculated. Cable production initially took place in a separate department of Rentto Oy under the trademark Re-ka. In 1965, Reka became an independent subsidiary of Rentto Oy, and in 1989, it became the parent company of the Group.
